As much as I adore stirring the hot coals in a bonfire, boxed-up\nuniform artists\u2019 charcoal for me leaves something to be desired. I sat back,\ncommitted to observing the toddlers as they confronted this new material in\ntheir space. As I watched, I started to make marks with the broken bits of\ncharcoal that had scattered across the paper. I found myself distracted by the\nmovement of the little bodies all around me. Distracted in a good way\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I began to attend to the physicality of the experience\u2014the energy shifts, the varying density of the marks they left behind on the paper. Afterwards, I looked at the paper and there were definite dark patches interspersed with trickles of lighter marks and trails of smudges. Eventually, the little bodies disperse, trailing off to investigate on their own. Without a doubt, another \u201ccrowd\u201d moment is just around the corner, followed by more muted experiences. The marks that the toddlers left on the paper became very symbolic of the energy that I feel exists when we walk together. In my mind, I equate this to fireworks\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><strong>Fireworks<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Like\nfireworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Energy<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Hot and\nfocused<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Brief<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Then\ndissipates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Like\nfireworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Attention<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Intense\nand passionate<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Radiates<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Then\nfades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Like\nfireworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Flicker\nand flash<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Independent\npaths<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Reunite\nin booms of concentrated energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Explosive\nbursts<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Give\nlight to a million sparks<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">To\nwander once again on their own<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align:center\">Like\nfireworks trail across the night sky.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My relationship with charcoal is one of indifference.
